Tucker:

do you have any side pics of the front clip from 1018? damage examination was posted comparing the 'vert to 1027, and since the front fenders are supposedly from 1018 I would like to see what they look like...??

I can't wait to see what you come up with !!!! Seems like they are all still out there waiting to be brought back to life.
Now if I can find my sledge hammer I'll dig up #1023....(just kidding)

The pictures that Tucker posted on page 19 sure seem to show that the right front fender is off of #1027 so there may not be much of #1018 on it.

Tucker Convertible's "correct" transmission.

Postby Franklin6 » Thu May 14, 2009 8:31 pm

Tucker Fan 48 wrote:Cole may have a transmission that could have been used in a Tucker but stating it has the correct transmission as proof it is a factory built Tucker is misleading.

Tucker Fan 48 got me thinking. So I checked out the Original Wheels TV video again and found this:

In the Original Wheels YouTube video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmzdamKcMHw, Justin Cole states:
Justin Cole wrote: We did our homework and and we looked the car over. And uh, uh, I mean it's got the authentic Tucker um, uh, flat 6 that they used in all the Tuckers and the correct transmission and, uh, pretty much all the components were there, uh. We had to do some fabricating, uh, for the quarter panels, back behind the doors, and uh, um, the rocker panels we had to do...

I have no idea what condition that car arrived in when Benchmark got it, but from this interview it sounds like this car was complete and in need of some simple body repair. However by Reinert's own admission this car was not always in such a complete state. In the January 22, 2009 edition of Old Cars Weekly, Brian Earnest in The Mysterious Tucker convertible http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/article/The_Mysterious_Tucker_convertible/ states:

Brian Earnest wrote:Reinert said when he acquired the car it was basically a frame with a cowl tack-welded in place, two front doors and two rear quarter panels. “It had no motor, no transmission, no steering, no tires or wheels. No nothing. After I found the car I started scrounging parts.”

This has been born out by many photos in this thread. But sometimes it's nice to have a little documentation from the source. Tucker Fan 48 is right, "correct transmission" means absolutely nothing.

The video sure got me wondering what was in that second trailer, though.

Everything fits in one trailer but it makes it sound better if you say two trailers. Maybe since it came with many Tucker toy cars, factory letters the Tucker Topic of the convertible and more they needed another trailer of the other items and one for the car.

It took a second trailer to pile all the Bull**** in their story about a factory "convertible".

If you look at this early photo the number was not 57 back then. It looks to be a 27 and this coul was painted blue before as seen on another photo I posted before. Do anyone here have a clear photo like this photo?

I imported the picture to i-photo. Initially, I thought it looked like 55. Further messing around with values and I keep seeing 27, over and over.

Any ideas where the drivers side front fender came from? From the pictures Tucker posted it seems almost certain that the passenger side
came from #1027 but the drivers side fender has no gas tank door so that would seem to rule out it being from #1027 as well unless I've
missed something.

The older pictures do seem to show the body number pictures as #27 as opposed to #57.

The driver side fender had a gas door. I will show you. If you look closely you can still see the outline of where it used to be and it was welded closed. I marked part of it so you can find it.

Wow, I can see with the photo you are right. So that rules out it being from #1018,
where do you think the fender came from? Is it yet another piece of #1027?

I think it is from 1027 due to some clues I found but will have to find some good photos to show it is. I know the rear driver side fender is also from 1027. Now the question would be "what body panels are not from 1027??" :)
